LAGOS TASKFORCE QUELLS UNREST AT LEKKI-EPE EXPRESSWAY

… Vows to Bring All Perpetrators to Book

The Lagos State Taskforce, in collaboration with other Security Agencies, has quelled unrest triggered by an accident that occurred around the Second Lekki Toll Gate, Chevron Ajah, Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lagos on Tuesday.

Speaking on the incidents, the Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, CSP Shola Jejeloye, explained that the unrest started after a commercial motorcycle drove against traffic and rammed into an oncoming truck. The accident led to the death of the rider and injury to the passenger.

CSP Jejeloye stated that miscreants and hoodlums in the area took advantage of the situation to set the truck ablaze, caused a commotion, robbed and harassed innocent citizens along the axis, adding, however, that the swift intervention of the State Taskforce and other security agents brought the situation under control and restored normalcy in the area.

He, therefore, urged motorists to always exercise patience while driving on the roads to avoid preventable accidents and unrests, saying: “We should not be too quick or hasty to drag right of way when driving because the person you are struggling with could probably not be in the right frame of mind at that moment”.

While warning all the unscrupulous elements in Lagos who are eager to capitalise on a little incident to refrain from such act or face the full wrath of the law, the Chairman disclosed that efforts are currently being made to evacuate the burnt vehicle and ease traffic flow along the axis.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Taskforce has impounded not less than 32 motorcycles for violating the State traffic laws on the restriction of Okada, while it has also arrested 21 suspects in connection with the mayhem for breach of public peace.
